• When you are exhausted, stop.  You cannot live and breathe your work, take some time to relax and have some fun.
• If you have hit a blank, take a break and change your environment.  Sometimes a walk in the fresh air or a change of room can get the thought process going.
• Remember that you have done all the hard work and you are nearly at the finish line.
• Don’t stop believing in yourself – if you say you can then you can.   

I hope this helps students who are facing final exams.  I am certainly not of the belief that students are lazy and believe that the majority are hard working young people who make a very valuable contribution to our society.

I  thought today I would share with you the impact that mentoring can have on both the mentor and the mentee.  I am involved with a volunteer mentoring project in Glasgow for young unemployed people who are on New Deal.  This is run by the Glasgow Mentoring Network who source mentors  willing to give up a few hours of their time  to share their knowledge and experience to help someone get back into work.  It is a great  project and today I was mentoring a young lad who was a time served mechanic and wanted to obtain work in the oil & gas industry.

I was able to share my experience of working in the oil & gas industry and we agreed on a plan of action to secure employment.  Mentoring works best when the person being mentored is really focused and determined to achieve a goal.  As a mentor, the opportunity to use my expertise and knowledge to help another person is always  motivating.

Mentoring programmes also work  in the corporate world and I have introduced many large organisations to mentoring as a way of uses existing talent to develop and grow their organisations.
